Sustainability and responsibility as the basis for professional advice
For Gråkjær, sustainability is not only about complying with legislation. It is also about responsibility and building the right capabilities internally. That is why the company has chosen to invest in knowledge and tools in this area and to build LCA capabilities in its design department. The ambition is for climate and LCA work to be close to the employees who work on the projects and make decisions in their day-to-day work.
“Sustainability and responsibility are a major focus at Gråkjær. For us, it is important that this is not just something we document at the end of a project. We want it to be a natural part of the way we work - from the first considerations in the sales phase to the completed building.”
The investment also sends an important internal signal. New requirements in the construction industry call for new capabilities, and Gråkjær wants to give employees both the knowledge and the tools to manage these developments professionally.
LCA from the first customer dialogue to the completed building
One of the key strengths of Gråkjær's approach is that the LCA process starts early. Already in the sales phase, the project can undergo an LCA screening. From there, the calculation follows the project through permitting and design, as materials, structures and quantities become increasingly specific.
During construction, the climate impact of the construction process itself is also tracked. At handover, Gråkjær can therefore prepare the final LCA documentation based on both the completed building and the actual construction process.
“We see great value in having one connected LCA process. It gives us visibility from the first calculations in the sales phase to the final documentation at handover - and makes it easier to work systematically with the climate impact along the way.”
